New at Whimzy!

We (Dianne, Bud, & I)are in the midst of setting up for Christmas. The shop always features all the things reminiscent of childhood. We have the best time watching our clients pick something up and study it only to exclaim "I remember these!". We try to select items we know we would enjoy having ourselves (i.e. the mannequin head!).
On another note, we sincerely hope that all those forced from their homes by the fires are safe & sound. I emailed the folks at Matilda's Mouse & received a response quicker than I thought I would. All was well with that fabulous group & the barn was still standing as of Wednesday. YAY!
Jamestown Flea is tomorrow! Only 2 left for 2007!

It's in the mix!

One of the things I love most about cottage chic/found decorating is the way new & old things complement eachother. I am seeing lots of that same concept in the collage art that my friends & I have been working on. It all started with the crowns and has migrated into so many other things. I so enjoy digging through mounds of fleamarket fodder to be pleasantly surprised by even just one piece of treasured vintage paper! My sissy & I have amassed a nice batch of old photos as well! The picture here is just an example of the new/old vintage blend at the shop. "Whimzy" (formally Petals & Greens Cottage) is full of old things given new life by vintage inspired creativity! I am so lucky! Not only can I create and put it in a pleace for others to enjoy, but I get to meet others that love & often create similar arts!

Always something good!

Hey everyone! Last weekend my sissy Dianne did a show up in Julian. Friday was a good day, she set up, met some new folks, and settled in. Saturday she found two of these beautiful wax dolls! The clothing on them is shredded silk. They are holding flowers in their hands that are faded to a pretty soft shell pink. One has a wire that may have been in her hoop skirt at one time or another. By Saturday afternoon a fire was burning just a few miles away and by 3pm everyone had to evacuate! Talk about excitement! But it just goes to show that wonderful treasure can be found anywhere! These pieces are at the shop, as well as a host of wonderful Halloween goodies! oh! Jamestown Village Fleamarket is this Sunday at 8am too!

My sissy & I are busily gathering the ghoulish goods for the shop. I am recovering from recent surgery(that's why there are no recent posts!) & am finally feeling somewhat human again! Here is what I am working on today "witch" is also a little preview of scary treasures for the shop!

This was a booth I especially like. The owners name is Yollie & she knows just how to arrange things! I could totally see this up on the antique armoire in my living room. Anyway, it was a great way to spend the morning & i encourage all of you to stop in & visit! For more you can go to http://www.petalsandgreenscottage.com/

Independence

Happy 4th! I was thinking this morning about what today means. 230 years ago people banded together for their beliefs and declared their independence. We are products of the thinking, sweat, and dedication of those rebellious people. I know that's only scratching the surface, but my heavens! What a wonderful nation we live in & what inspiration we can take from those that gave their hearts and their lives so we can sit in our jammies and create blogs for each other!
